Best time to visit
Best Time to Visit Tenerife
The largest of the Canary Islands, with year-round spring-like weather, black-sand and golden beaches, and Mount Teide — Spain's highest peak — at its centre. The sunny south (Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas, Los Cristianos) is where most visitors stay; the greener north is cooler and cloudier.
Best time to visit: Any time of year — the Canaries are a classic winter-sun escape. Spring and autumn are especially pleasant; summer is hot but tempered by trade winds.
Local tip: The south is usually sunnier and warmer than the north — if the forecast looks cloudy for Puerto de la Cruz, the south coast may still be bright.
Getting around: Buses (TITSA) link the main towns, but a hire car makes it much easier to reach Teide, Masca and the north.
Good to know: Temperatures drop sharply with altitude — bring a warm layer for Teide, where it can be near freezing on winter mornings.
